What's different in Yukon

Yukon mirrors the federal system: its brackets and basic personal amount follow the federal ones.

  • The basic personal amount is the same as the federal one: $16,452, reduced gradually for incomes between $181,440 and $258,482.
  • Yukon is the only territory with its own Canada employment amount credit (6.4% of $1,501).
  • Five brackets from 6.4% to 15% above $500,000.

Example: tax on $75,000 in Yukon

On a $75,000 salary in Yukon, taxable income is $74,273 federally, once the enhanced part of CPP is deducted. Each slice is taxed at its own rate:

Yukon

  • 6.4% on $58,523 = $3,745.47
  • 9% on $15,750 = $1,417.50

$5,162.97 before credits → $3,716.46 after credits.

Federal

  • 14% on $58,523 = $8,193.22
  • 20.5% on $15,750 = $3,228.75

$11,421.97 before credits → $8,258.60 after credits.

Total income tax: $11,975.06, an average rate of 16.0%, even though the top slice is taxed at 28.3% combined. Moving into a higher bracket never makes you lose money: only the dollars above the threshold pay the higher rate.
